Permian Basin Stratigraphy?
Q. What is the entire sequence of formation names and ages for the delaware basin, the central basin, and the midland basin of the Permian Basin in West Texas? Thank You!!! The stratigraphy of any of the sub-basins would be helpful. I already have the stratigraphy for the Permian age formations. I just need the formation names and ages for the rocks older and younger than Permain. If anyone has an electronic copy of the source: Stratigraphy of the Permian Basin of West Texas, West Texas Geol. Soc. by Jones, T. S. (1953) or if you have any of the cross sections from it, could you please e-mail it to me? Thanks!!!

Permian stuff?
Q. OK, so I just watched the episode of Nova Scinec Now that discussed the Permian extinction. We have a Permian Basin here in Texas (way out on the West side). How are the two related? Or are they related at all? Was the Permian Basin named for something totally unrelated to the Permian Epoch and extinction?

A. The Permian Period (Epochs are smaller divisions of time) is named after Perm, Russia where rocks of that age were first studied. The Permian Basin in the Texas Panhandle region is named that because rocks of Permian age make up a very thick sequence of the rock there, although there are both older and younger rocks in the basin. The redbeds of the area you are undoubtedly familiar with are mostly Permian in age, BTW. Because of the importance of oil, natural gas, gypsum, and other mineral resources in that area, the general region is called the Permian Basin even when it is unrelated to geology, so you end up with the geographic area being named after the geologic feature, which was named for the Permian Period, which in turn was named… [cont.]

A. I thought I put a comment here.. hmm. I am not a fan of Ms. Dushman... her study guides are terrible because it doesn't cover HALF of what we went over. You can message me or leave me a comment on my profile... I have most of the answers already by finding them via internet or reading the book. If you need help just contact me through my profile. Tuesday night is our test so I don't know how much you've got done but i'm here to help you if you need some answers.

What classes do I need before specialized Veterinary college?
Q. My options are limited right now. I have a local college, Odessa College, and a university, University of Texas in the Permian Basin. What classes do I need specifically in order to think about attending Texas A&M? I know I need a good GPA to even be considered, but will it hurt that I had to get my GED? I plan on getting my basics done at Odessa College and then applying for grants to go to UTPB since the classes are more advance and they offer a Vet Tech program, so I'm sure they have more than the community college. I want to focus on math, biology, and science as I hear it's best, but specifically which classes? What extra classes can I take to get a leg up? It's time I take control and get out of my rut, but I just don't know where… [cont.]

A. Ok if i understand correctly, you will take classes in Odessa and later transfer them to A&M towards a Veterinary Biomedical Sciences degree? In which case this is what you need to do Familiarize yourself with A&M Transfer Guidelines: Familiarize yourself with the Biomedical Sciences catalog: Get in contact with A&M Registrar office and discuss with them your plan. They will tell you which courses at your local colleges will be able to transfer towards your degree. good luck! and don't worry about the GED :)
