Race and ethnicity in the United States Census, as defined by the United States Census Bureau and the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB), are self-identification data items in which residents choose the race or races with which they most closely identify, and indicate whether or not they are of Hispanic or Latino origin (ethnicity). The racial categories represent a social-political construct designed for the race or races that respondents consider themselves to be and "generally reflect a social definition of race recognized in this country." The OMB defines the concept of race as outlined for the US Census as not "scientific or anthropological" and takes into account "social and cultural characteristics as well as ancestry" using "appropriate scientific methodologies" but not "primarily biological or genetic in reference." Race and ethnicity are considered separate and distinct identities, with Hispanic or Latino origin asked as a separate question. Thus, in addition to their race or races, all respondents are categorized by membership in one of two ethnicities, which are "Hispanic or Latino" and "Not Hispanic or Latino". In 1997, OMB issued a Federal Register Notice which provided revised racial and ethnic definitions. Census 2000From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Why are people so ignorant about race and human evolution? Q. Most data suggests that between 43.8 and 49.3 percent of all African immigrants in the United States hold a college diploma (Nisbett, 2002; Charles, 2007; U.S. Census, 2000). This is slightly more than the percentage of Asian immigrants to the U.S., substantially greater than the percentage of European immigrants, nearly double that of native-born white Americans, nearly four times the rate of native-born African Americans, and more than 8 times that of some Hispanic groups (Williams, 2005; Nisbett, 2002; The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, 1999-2000; U.S. Census, 2000). Black immigrants from Africa have also been shown to have rates of college graduation that are more than double that of the U.S. born population, in general… [cont.] Asked by Young Black and smart - Wed Dec 24 10:09:03 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you're going to support the arguement that the races are equal, then using biased information that praises blacks is just going to contradict your point. Unless your point is that blacks are superior to other races. why do you need to copy/paste the study that focuses solely on race? Its no better than saying "whites are the best race". Most people in this country today are mixed race, and have mixed heritage. So when you call on whites you are just calling on yourself, because I doubt it you're 100% African. Also the issue of education and diploma holding is a social issue, not a biological issue. Americans are lazy. African immigrants are more likely to succeed because most of them come from an underpriveledged country, and know… [cont.] Answered by andre - Wed Dec 24 10:47:41 2008 What is globalization? Q. Globalization is nothing new. It is an aspect of business that has been in effect since (probably) the beginning of time. The modern use of the term seems to have a connotation connected to Asian manufacturing plants and U.S. job loss, but this is only one small aspect of the entire history and/or world of globalization. One example of globalization could be the taking of men and women into slavery by the early Dutch traders over 400 years ago. The imperialism that caused the Dutch to reach out of Europe and attempt to settle other parts of the world also discovered that certain people could be controlled and ensnared as slaves. This was an economic opportunity in those days. It was also a way for the Dutch to increase their input… [cont.] Asked by jam_handy - Tue Jul 8 23:03:13 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. hahaha you think I read that?!
