A. Add your business's details to any local websites that have a local business directory section. Also knock together a basic webpage which describes: - What your business does - Where it's located - How people requiring your services can get in touch To this webpage, add a webring code from webring.com and join webrings for your local area that allow local businesses to join the ring. The website will allow you to advertise a hell of a lot more impressively than an old fashioned newspaper advert, and for a hell of a lot less money + people virtually expect to find a website for most businesses these days (it doesn't have to be a fancy Ebay / Amazon / Walmart.com style affair... as long as it let's potential customers know you exist, what… [cont.]

Making money from advertising on your web page: How does it work exactly?
Q. When you own a website , how does the whole advertising thing work? For example, if i started a website that eventualy got tens of millions of hits a month, how would i get companies to advertise on my site? Would i approach them ? Would they approach me? Would they supply me the advertising banners? What sort of money is offered for advertising space? Basically: How does it all work ? If anyone could give me some feedback on it , i'd be most appreciative. Thanks !

A. There are several ways you can earn money from advertising: 1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services. Burst Media Fastclick (ValueClick). Advertising.com. Tribal Fusion 2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system. What kind of advertising can I do for my college area restaurant?
Q. I own a little restaurant in the college area of San Diego. I'm wondering if you can give me any tips for advertising my sandwich shop to the college students. Print advertising? Online Advertising? How much does it cost? Can you also give any ideas on special events or promotions to get customers in? Thanks!

A. In addition to the suggestions from the previous person, if I were you I would look into the nearby college newspaper and find out their rates for advertising in print and on the website. Contacting someone in the sports or student activities departments of the college to find out about possible sponsorship opportunities (this will probably cost more than advertising in the campus newspaper). Word of mouth and flyers are probably going to be the cheapest way to get your name out there. You can hire students to hand out flyers on campus. Where I went to college (University of New Mexico) there was always a guy handing out flyers in a funny outfit, everyone laughed but they were one of the most popular lunch places in the area. Good luck! [cont.]

A. For the most part, ad agencies are not going out of business. They are, however, rapidly changing with new technology and going away from the traditional points of reaching their markets. With recent advances in rotating electronic billboards, media-based cell phones (or on-the-go processors i.e. netbooks/ iPads), social networking sites, and several advances that will be made in the near future, advertising budgets are actually growing to meet the current demands in "new media" over the last couple of years (despite the recession) and will grow even more soon, but they are cutting back heavily on allocated expenditures on traditional TV commercial advertising, stand-alone magazine ads, and the "old" way of creating market awareness. How does an advertising agency get paid?
Q. I worked at a radio station selling advertising. When I would ask my supervisor and boss how a marketing / advertising agency works, the answer I would get is...it's not worth your time or hard work. I have since quit my job due to, well, my boss was a tyrant, but that's irrelevant. I have run into a couple of my old clients that have asked me to handle their advertising, but I have no idea how to charge them or how I get paid by the advertising avenues. Can someone please tell me, how does an advertising agency get paid? Please be specific...thank you!

A. They charge a fee for creative work, and make a 15% commission on media. This means if they place media buys, such as television or radio air time, or print media space, such as newspapers, magazines, or billboards, they add the standard 15% commission on the costs of the media. If they produce print work, they add a commission on to that as well. Or they may charge a flat monthly rate for creative work and sign a long term contract with a client guaranteeing X amount of work for X amount of money. (A one to three year contract is normal.) There may be fees for additional work requested by the client such as producing original market research--polling potential clients with taste tests of a product for instance. (And you may be able to… [cont.]

What is the best way to sell advertising space?
Q. I currently ride one of the 400 rickshaws in central London and I am looking to get a new one. They cost a lot of money and I would like a company to purchase the advertising space located in the back for 4000. At this price they will get continuous advertising for 5 years. What is the best way for me to approach businesses and companies and sell my idea? Other company currently rent advertising space on the back of a rickshaw for 250 a day! . Your help is much appreciated.
Asked by gumtrunk - Tue Jan 16 18:35:34 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Ask the companies currently renting why they think it is good for them. Then use this as a selling point to their competition. Also develop your own USP Also check out your route what type of customers you get, what type of services they would be interested in. When you know this then you can pitch to businesses offering those services etc. When you make your first million remember me!

I would like to start a small grassroots Advertising Agency, How would i go about starting & getting clients?
Q. I know in todays economy everyone is cutting back on spending, especially businesses by laying off employee's. However there are still print and television advertising still being purchased. I know what it takes to start a business, however I would like to know what it takes actually start a grassroots advertising agency? What does it intel? Creating creative ads for clients, being familiar with places and cost to advertise? What would I need to do? Any information would be helpful.

A. The two major considerations are: 1) what are you going to offer (Do you have the skills or can you get them) 2) Do you have the business knowledge to operate a business? For the first item - you should put together a portfolio of what you can do for a client - whatever you make for people to see will say a lot about whether they hire you. Looks are important. For the second item - marketing, management, finance - while a small business - you still need to do these things and you won't have help by hiring someone - so you'r best bet is to go directly to your local SBDC (Small Business Development Center) and ask for help in preparing for your business -it is free and you can really use their help no matter how much you already know.

How could internet advertising be made better?
Q. I know that nobody LIKES advertising. I agree that the advertising out there sucks and is annoying. So... That's my question. Assuming that we aren't going to pay for all the web sites we use, how could online advertising be changed to be a better experience for users AND more valuable for advertisers so they want to buy it?
Asked by Pixel - Tue Oct 21 12:00:53 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The buyers online use phrases called keywords to search for an item. Thus the advertising that works for both the consumer and the advertiser is the one based on a good keyword research. In addition, the ads have to portray the product in an unbiased and interesting way. A misrepresentation will neither help the advertiser nor the consumer, because it will be exposed sooner or later. Q. I know that nobody LIKES advertising. I agree that the advertising out there sucks and is annoying. So... That's my question. Assuming that we aren't going to pay for all the web sites we use, how could online advertising be changed to be a better experience for users AND more valuable for advertisers so they want to buy it?

An honest ad will bring repeated sales. More on this subject can be found in the following website:

How much does your business rely on advertising?
Q. I just started a business which is not doing well. I have not done a lot to advertise as it is expensive. How much does a new business need to rely on advertising?

A. You can have the best product or greatest service in the world, but if nobody knows it's there, you're going broke for a living. Marketing and promotion are critical to any business success and growth. Try this: Create a billboard web site - a website that describes your services and products and allows buyers to buy on line. If you're only after local business, Google offers a lot of local search options. Just add your address to the keywords. You can build a good-looking website using templates. Just add copy. Add a free checkout like osCommerce, open a Paypal account and start hyping the website through traditional marketing outlets. For example, use the classifieds in the local newspaper with nothing but your URL. It piques… [cont.]

When is the right time to start advertising for a new product?
Q. I am starting a detergents factory. And I am confussed, should I start advertising before selling, or do I present my products to the supermarkets and wait for awhile and then advertise?

A. I would advertise first. Get the name out there. Product recognition is key. Then when your customer sees your product in the store, they will say to themselves, "oh, here is that detergent I've been hearing about. I think I'll try it". Good luck.

How much does an advertising guru get paid for a weeks worth of work?
Q. For a school project we are making a campaign to sell something, and it includes salary. We figured out that the accountant gets paid 99 dollars a week but how much would a company president and advertising guru get paid for a week of work?

A. Make it dramatic and say that the Ad Guru gets $1Million for one week of work. It is worth it to the company if the ad generates $100 Million in sales. In real life the best ad men make a lot of money..
